Architecture and Implementation Plan for a Hedge Fund Manager
Situation
A hedge fund management firm was using an unstable technology platform. The firm wanted to reduce its dependence on vendors that provided poor support, and wanted to replace its in-house system, which had been built on desktop technology. This firm trades credit default swaps and bank debt, which are not well supported by any of the vendor products. What we did
- Analyzed current state and business needs.
- Recommended end-state architecture and a phased roadmap to achieve it.
- Created implementation, integration and conversion strategy, and a plan for the project's first phase, installation of Advent Geneva portfolio accounting system.
Obstacles
The firm's traders feared losing control if they moved away from the homegrown system. This was a major project for the firm, requiring a substantial time commitment; however, the firm had a limited budget. In addition, the firm had no in-house IT or program management experience. Results
Client implemented the recommended phased approach. Core accounting is on track to go live as planned, to be immediately followed by second phase, developing specifications for their trading system.
