Enterprise Data Model for a Private Bank

Situation

A private bank wanted to consolidate systems to a common global technology platform to reduce cost and enable integrated information and client service.

What we did

Developed a data model to create a common business language.
Enlisted business people as participants.
Developed consensus on data model by demonstrating business value.
Created a usable, focused final document and validated it globally.

Obstacles

Resistance to participating in project by both business and technology. Business people saw data model as too technical to interest them, and technologists viewed the data model as too theoretical.

Results

Data model was completed and became the basis of an enterprisewide operational data store, which is now providing integrated data for client reporting and targeted to be used for other client service functions.
